The Capital Striders & CS Turkeys are excited to partner with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and REI to present an awareness workshop that is designed and geared for students age 5-13 on the responsibilities of ethical use of our dirt trails and parks. During this workshop, participants receive introductory training in the skills and ethics of Leave No Trace. Workshop topics include the underlying concept of minimum impact recreation and the Seven Principles of Leave No Trace:

  • Plan Ahead and Prepare
  • Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
  • Dispose of Waste Properly
  • Leave What You Find
  • Minimize Campfire Impacts
  • Respect Wildlife
  • Be Considerate of Other Visitors

This FREE event does require pre-registration and will be limited to 100 children ages 5-13. At least one parent/guardian will be required to attend. This is a free event, but free will donations can be made to support the mission of Leave No Trace. Adult t-shirts available for purchase on the day of the event (sizes and quantities limited) for $10 via cash only.

Your childs pre-registration will provide the following items and activities:

  • Special event t-shirt provided by the Sycamore 8 Trail Run (Youth Large sizes only)
  • One hour workshop presented by The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers
  • Short, untimed, trail run for children and their parents
  • Hot dogs, drinks & snacks provided by the Capital Striders and CS Turkeys
  • A great chance to learn how we can all change the ways in which our parks and trails are used
